The Democratic Party - Looks Like Fletcher Should Have Preemptively Pardoned Himself Too
The Democratic Party - The grand jury investigating hiring practices in his Administration today indicted Republican Governor Ernie Fletcher of Kentucky on charges of illegally rewarding political supporters with state jobs. Fletcher's indictment follows a year-long investigation that led to the indictment of 13 other current and former administration officials and associates.
My Spin
ok this is my home state and what is happening here is terrible. Even the Democrats agree that our Attorney General is abusing his office for personal gain. In May 2005, state Democratic Attorney General, Greg Stumbo, began an investigation of the Fletcher administration's practices within the state merit system in hiring, promoting, demoting and firing state employees based on political loyalties. The investigation was based on a 276-page complaint filed by Douglas W. Doerting, the assistant personnel director for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. Stumbo's motivations have been questioned because of his intent to challenge Fletcher in the 2007 gubernatorial race, and because there is much evidence that previous administrations had similar hiring practices.
Basically he plans on running against Fletcher and is doing everything within his power to make Fletcher look bad. Currently Fletcher has three misdemeanor charges of conspiracy, official misconduct and political discrimination these stem from him appointing Republicans to seats traditionally held by Democrats. What he isn't being tried for is the Poltical Patronage system that every single politician uses, basically Greg Stumbo is charging him with appointing the wrong people.
KY has had a Democratic governor for about 40 years then Flethcer (R) was elected going off a scandal year involving Paul Patton. Fletcher won and appointed Rep's to seats held by Democrats for the last 40 years. It's important to note that it wasn't the people he appointed it was that they were Republicans. Moreover Stumbo has drug this out over a year just to keep it in the news, he had all the info he needs months ago but has not charged Fletcher until Friday when the one-year window to charge someone with violating or conspiring to break state merit employment laws was set to expire Saturday. Very corrupt on Stumbo's part even the Democratic Speaker Jody Richards stated : “It’s a sad day for the commonwealth and for the people,” One reason is that Fletcher, and many in his administration, will need to focus on defending against the charges, which will take time and attention away from the job of running state government."
My sister works in the capital and all their computers have been taken as evidence when computers that just belonged to staffers that held no evidence. Stumbo wants to stop government dead and make Fletcher look as bad as possible for his own gain nothing less than that. Fletcher has done nothing more than any other politician and to charge him means you have to charge every other politician.
